Nella prova scritta dei concorsi dell'Agenzia delle Entrate viene accertata, insieme alle materie giuridico-tributarie, anche la conoscenza della lingua inglese a livello B1/B2. I quesiti sono interamente in inglese, autoportanti e non richiedono conoscenze di istituti italiani: vengono valutate la grammatica, il lessico e la comprensione del testo.
Sul piano grammaticale occorre padroneggiare i tempi verbali (present simple e continuous, past simple, present perfect, forme di futuro), i verbi modali (obbligo, divieto, deduzione logica), i periodi ipotetici (zero, primo, secondo e terzo condizionale), la forma passiva, il discorso indiretto (reported speech) con il relativo backshift dei tempi verbali, i comparativi e superlativi, l'uso degli articoli, le preposizioni, i pronomi relativi e i principali phrasal verbs. Attenzione particolare va riservata agli errori tipici degli italofoni: doppie negazioni, collocazioni scorrette calcate sull'italiano (es. 'do a mistake' invece di 'make a mistake') e i false friends, parole simili all'italiano ma di significato diverso (actually/attualmente, sensible/sensibile, to pretend/pretendere, actual/attuale).
Completano la sezione brevi brani di reading comprehension su temi generali, seguiti da domande di comprensione, senza necessità di conoscenze specialistiche.
La sezione verifica la conoscenza delle apparecchiature e applicazioni informatiche più diffuse nell'attività d'ufficio: hardware e software di base (funzione della CPU, differenza tra memoria RAM, volatile, e ROM, non volatile); i sistemi operativi, che gestiscono le risorse hardware e fanno da interfaccia con l'utente; il file system.
Per reti e Internet sono richieste le nozioni di indirizzo IP, browser, motore di ricerca e i principali protocolli, come HTTP per la navigazione web e FTP per il trasferimento di file, da non confondere tra loro. Rilevante anche la posta elettronica e la Posta Elettronica Certificata (PEC), che attribuisce valore legale alla trasmissione dei messaggi.
La sicurezza informatica comprende le buone pratiche per le password, il riconoscimento del phishing, la distinzione tra i tipi di malware, l'importanza del backup e i principi base della crittografia per la riservatezza dei dati. Vanno conosciute anche le applicazioni d'ufficio più diffuse: elaborazione testi, fogli di calcolo (funzioni di base come la somma di un intervallo di celle) e database, con il concetto di chiave primaria. Infine, nozioni su firma digitale e SPID, il Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale per i servizi online della PA, da non confondere con la PEC.
